A man is in custody after he took a woman hostage inside a Fort Lauderdale home, leading to a 3-hour SWAT team standoff Wednesday morning.
The standoff began shortly after 4:30 a.m. when the unidentified man barricaded himself inside a bathroom at a residence on the 2900 block of Southwest 11 Court.
Hostage negotiators were brought in and when the SWAT team entered the residence three hours later and the man surrendered. It's unknown if he was armed.
"As we were making entry, our suspect saw the SWAT team approaching the home and made the decision to exit the residence," said Sgt. Frank Sousa, with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. "At this point he's definitely going to be facing domestic violence charges, he could also possibly face false imprisonment charges."
Sousa said officers were still interviewing the woman to find out what happened.
