Suspect Tried to Swim Away From Police: Cops

Dwyer refused to get into a boat that police borrowed from a good Samaritan.

Stuart Police arrested a Jensen Beach burglary suspect who went swimming in a creek in an attempt to elude authorities, the TCPalm reported.

David Dwyer, 44, was arrested early Thursday morning and faces charges including attempted burglary and resisting arrest without violence, according to the newspaper.

Police responded to a woman who said a man wearing all white was trying to break into her house.

When they arrived, Dwyer immediately ran away from police and jumped into Poppleton Creek to try to get away, according to a news release.

Dwyer refused to get into a boat that police borrowed from a good Samaritan. Authorities tried to throw him ropes and pepper spray him, but the attempts failed to get him in the boat, the report said.

An officer came close to catching Dwyer when he tried to get out of the creek, but he jumped back into the water.

Dwyer eventually gave up and surrendered to police.
