Man Arrested For Running Over Ex-Girlfriend's Head: Cops

He denies running over the woman

A man was arrested for allegedly running over his former girlfriend's head with a truck, The Palm Beach Post reported.

James Avera faces charges including attempted murder and robbery.

According to the probable cause affidavit, several witnesses said they saw him run over ex-girlfriend Toni Baran. When police got to the scene they found Baran with bottom part of her ear almost completely cut, the newspaper said.

She was hospitalized and later released.

Witnesses said Avera beat Baran after the two argued when he said she stole $700 from him, the affidavit said. During the fight, Avera backed up the truck as she held onto a window, and she fell on the ground right in the way of the truck's back tire when he pushed her, the newspaper said.

He allegedly drove away, rolling over her head, even though witnesses screamed for him to stop, the newspaper reports.

Avera denied running her over but  did say her took her purse, which he said he did because she had stolen money from him, the newspaper said.

It wasn't immediately known who Avera's attorney was.
