Man Faces Several Road Rage-Related Charges: Cops

Florida Highway Patrol arrested Edwin Efrain Vilchez.

A man was arrested after being accused of brandishing a gun at a fellow driver during a road rage incident and then crashing into several cars on the Palmetto Expressway, according to authorities.

Edwin Efrain Vilchez, 28, was booked into jail and faces several charges including leaving the scene of a crash and two counts of reckless driving and D.U.I., according to the Miami-Dade Corrections website.

Authorities say witnesses told them that Vilchez pulled a gun on a motorist after a heated exchange at a Shell gas station on 104 Street and U.S.1 on Friday night.

The victim called Florida Highway Patrol when Vilchez began following him on the Palmetto Expressway, authorities said.

Vilchez's car was spotted by a Miami-Dade officer after FHP issued a B.O.L.O, which means be on the lookout. The officer saw Vichez's vehicle crash into several other cars on the expressway, according to FHP. One person was injured and airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Vilchez was apprehended on a felony stop by three FHP troopers.

It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
