Man Arrested in 1983 Violent Home Invasion, Rape Case

Authorities have made an arrest in a violent crime case that happened more than three decades ago.

Aaron Rhone, 49, is facing charges in a crime committed back in 1983.

A lengthy narrative on the police report details a violent home invasion with Rhone allegedly terrorizing the family and raping the woman inside the Plantation home.

According to investigators, the armed suspect stormed his way into the house, tied up the man and sexually assaulted the woman, all while their five-year-old son was inside the house.

Rhone, just arrested in Miami, didn't admit to the crime, but said this in bond court while appearing off camera: "I was 17-years-old. I was just..."

"Sir, don't talk. Do not say anything," the public defender quickly said.

According to the police report, the woman pleaded with the subject to take whatever he wanted and if he didn't touch her, she wouldn't tell police. The subject responded by pointing the gun to her head.

In court Thursday, Judge John Hurley talked about the attack against her husband, "He was armed with a handgun, allegedly pointed it at the man, the father's head, and told him he would harm him with the gun."

If convicted, Rhone could receive life in prison. He has been charged with kidnapping and sexual battery, and was being held without bond.

Police said DNA helped investigators link Rhone to the case. A DNA sample was taken from the rape victim and just recently matched up with the suspect.
