A man was arrested for fatally stabbing his estranged wife in front of his two children, Hialeah Police said.
Alfonso Lopez de Queralta, 41, stabbed Yulianela Silva Torres, 30, on Monday, just before 6 a.m.at her home at 960 West 29th Street, police said. He then stabbed himself during the incident and was taken to the hospital.
Police said he faces charges including first-degree murder, burglary with assault or battery/armed and domestic violence/violation of injunction.
The couple had been separated and Torres had a permanent domestic violence injunction served on him on Oct. 30.
The children are in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
Neighbor Dainerys Rodriguez had said "the little girls were screaming and all of a sudden there was like a silence."
The victim had been estranged from her husband for some time. Dainerys Rodriguez says the husband had a restraining order "because he already had hit her once."
