Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting Outside Miami Bar

A man accused of shooting another man during an armed robbery outside a Miami bar last year was behind bars Tuesday.

Jacobo Chigin, 54, was arrested Monday on charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence in the August 15 shooting, according to a Miami police arrest report.

Chigin was ordered held without bond Tuesday. It was unknown if he has an attorney.

According to the arrest report, the victim, Wilmer Irias, was hanging out at the Marlins Bar on Southwest 17th Avenue in Little Havana when he left to get something from his car.

Irias was confronted and robbed by an armed man, who shot him several times after they struggled, the report said. The victim staggered back into the bar and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

An anonymous source later named Chigin the suspect, the report said. Chigin's girlfriend told detectives that on the day of the shooting, he returned home sweating and nervous and hand a handgun in his waistband, the report said.

"I just did something to a Honduran guy at the Marlins Bar," he said, according to the girlfriend. Chigin later sold the gun for crack cocaine in his neighborhood, the girlfriend told police.

Chigin denied being involved in the robbery and shooting, the report said. He has prior arrests for armed robberies and carrying a concealed firearm, the report said.
