Man Arrested in Hit and Run Crash That Killed Three

Cedric Williams, 48, arrested after limping away from horrific crash scene

Police say they've arrested a man who fled the scene after he caused a horrific car crash that killed three people in Miami Sunday morning.

Cedric Levon Williams, 48, is charged with three counts leaving the scene of a crash involving death and one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injury after he was arrested Monday, according to the Miami Police Department.

Williams was behind the wheel of his 1995 blue Chevy Astro Van when he ran a red light at the intersection of Northeast 2nd Ave. and 82nd St. just before 4 a .m., police said.

The van, which had an expired tag, struck a Honda Civic that was carrying four people. The driver of the Honda, 25-year-old Robert Wissler of Sunny Isles Beach, and two female passengers, 20-year-old Lindsey Ellen Ennis of Duluth, Ga., and 19-year-old Kayla Elizabeth Bain of Tutnam Station, N.Y.,  were pronounced dead at the scene.

A fourth person, 69-year-old Robert Judd, was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Police say Williams was seen limping away from the crash scene on foot. A police K-9 unit followed a trail of blood from the scene, and officers later found a shirt near some blood, but Williams was able to get away.

According to an arrest report, when officers went to arrest Williams, he refused to surrender and kept police in a standoff for several hours before family members convinced him to surrender.

Williams was limping during his arrest, had a bump on his head and was bleeding from his left elbow, the report said.

"Yeah, I cut myself with glass as I was getting out of van," Williams allegedly told police. Williams admitted he was drinking when he was driving the van at the time of the crash and admitted to running the red light, according to the report.

Williams told police he fled the scene because his driver's license was suspended, and that he paid someone $20 to give him a ride home.

He was being held on $36,000 bond.
