Man Arrested in Murder of Miami Northwestern High School Student Maurice Harris

Miami Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old high school student in Liberty City.

Everton Demetrius Ramsay, 19, is facing charges of second-degree murder and carrying a concealed firearm in the shooting of Maurice Harris.

Ramsay appeared in court Thursday and was ordered held without bond. It was unknown if he's hired an attorney.

“I am proud of the work of the Miami Police Department and the community in bringing us to the first steps of justice in this tragic situation," Miami Police Chief Rodolfo Llanes said in a statement.

Harris, a junior at Miami Northwestern High School, was shot and killed earlier this month on Northwest 13th Avenue.

According to an arrest report, a witness saw Harris walk past Ramsay the night of Sept. 7. Ramsay followed Harris then asked him if they had been in prison together, the report said.

The witness saw Ramsay reach into his waistband and grab a gun, the report said. The witness later identified Ramsay as the man who shot Harris, the report said.
