Man Charged in After-Church Rape of Teen

16-year-old says fellow churchgoer raped her inside his car

A young girl on her way home from church in Homestead Sunday was raped, and police say the alleged rapist is a fellow church member.

It happened at the Church of God in the 200 block of Northeast 2nd Road, as the 16-year-old waited for her ride home.

That's when police say fellow church member Edwin Carrillo-Garcia, 23, offered to give her a ride home, and she accepted.

But the girl told police that instead of driving her home, Carrillo-Garcia drove her to an unknown place in Southwest Miami-Dade and began to ask her for sex.

The girl refused and began to cry, but Carrillo-Garcia pulled her pants off and raped the girl in his car, according to a police report.

After the rape, police say Carrillo-Garcia asked the girl for directions to her home and drove her there. He was later arrested and admitted he forced her into having sex after she told him no more than once, police said.

Carrillo-Garcia was charged with sexual battery and resisting an officer without violence. He was in court Tuesday where he was ordered held without bond because of a Immigrations and Customs Enforcement hold.
