Man Charged in Doral Stabbing

A man was behind bars Wednesday accused of attacking another man with a machete or large knife in Doral.

Alcides Diaz Benitez, 26, is facing charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault in the April 23 incident, police said.

He was being held without bond, jail records showed. He was appointed a public defender during Wednesday's court hearing.

Police say Benitez went to the home at 5201 Geneva Way to confront a friend about a photo on social media. When the friend wouldn't apologize to him, police say Benitez stabbed the victim.

Prosecutors said it's not the first time Benitez has resorted to violence.

"You have four separate arrest affidavits. You were arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm from April 22nd, 2015, three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, these are from April 18th of 2015, then you're charged also with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm," Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer said during Wednesday's court hearing.

In the last incident, on April 23rd, police in the apartment complex in Doral found a pair of bloody pants and a large knife or machete on the ground near the victim's apartment, according to a report. The victim ended up in the hospital in serious condition.

Neighbors on the scene said they had heard something going on and were worried.

"And it was going on for close to an hour and I didn't see no cops show up or nothing," one neighbor said. "Then I seen the police lights and heard the helicopter after midnight until two o'clock in the morning circling around."

Benitez is due back in court at the end of next month.
