A man is facing charges related to a fatal 2014 boating accident near Elliot Key, authorities said Friday.
Felipe Escobar, 45, turned himself in to face a homicide charge in the May 26 crash that killed 37-year-old Giovanna Santos, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said.
Officials said Escobar was operating a 23-foot boat when he hit an anchored boat near Elliot Key in Miami-Dade. Santos was killed while Escobar and another passenger sustained serious injuries.
An investigation revealed Escobar operated the boat in a reckless manner, authorities said.
Escobar faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
