Police looking for man who was caught on camera in Westside Regional emergency room

Police in Plantation are looking for a man who claimed he was a terrorist and had a bomb at a hospital.

Officials said the man entered the emergency room at Westside Regional Medical Center on W. Broward Boulevard on Jan. 18 and passed the security at the entry door.

When the man was stopped by security he claimed to be a terrorist and said he had a bomb, police said. He then left the emergency room and couldn't be found.

Surveillance images showed the suspect walking through the hospital carrying a backpack and another bag with a shoulder strap. Police described the suspect as a white male, about 5-foot-9, 230 pounds between 30 and 40 years old.

On Monday, in a separate incident, the medical center received an anonymous call that there was a suspicious package at the hospital. Plantation Police investigated but nothing was found and the hospital wasn't evacuated or put on lockdown.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
