Worker Dies After Being Electrocuted at Hialeah Building

What to Know

  • Chopper 6 was over the scene at 4260 Palm Avenue around 12 p.m., where the worker was treated by Hialeah Fire Rescue crews.

A worker was killed after being electrocuted during an incident at a Hialeah tire shop Thursday.

The worker was laboring on the unfinished building – an ongoing project for the past several months – when he picked up a beam, his coworker said. The beam hit a power line and he was electrocuted and killed.

"Looks like he was working on a top floor – close to a window – and made contact with a power line that was close to the building," said David Rodriguez, public information officer for the Hialeah Fire Department. "Unfortunately, he lost his life on the scene. Our units arrived and were not able to resuscitate."

The building is located at 4262 Palm Avenue, and the worker who died was in his 40s.

Hialeah police are calling the incident a death investigation. Detectives say the investigation is still underway.

No further details were immediately released.
