Man Dragged Half a Block, Left to Die in Hit-and-Run

A witness saw a car pulled over with its flashers on before the driver fled the scene

A 26-year-old man is dead after being hit by a car, dragged for half a block, and left to die in the street at a South Miami Heights bus stop.

A witness saw Jerrick Moore trying to cross SW 117th Avenue against traffic at the bus stop just north of SW 187th. When the witness returned to the street a few minutes later, he saw Moore lying in the road half a block away, with a silver Lexus or Infiniti pulled over alongside with hazard lights flashing.

As the witness watched, the car sped off.

Moore was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries and died.

"Our priority right now is locating that vehicle that was seen on the side of the roadway," said Miami-Dade police spokesperson Detective Roy Rutland, "and the driver of that vehicle. That driver could have been just a witness who fled, but we think that driver may have critical information."
