Man Enters Hollywood Home, Shoots Woman: Police

A woman is recovering after a man entered her Hollywood home and shot her early Wednesday before running away.

Frances Gillen says she and her sister, Mary Ann Gillen, were sitting outside of their home around 6 a.m. in the 1800 block of Dewey Street. Gillen tells NBC 6 that Mary Ann went inside the house, and the gunman quickly followed.

"She went into the house, then some guy came to the side of our house running like a ninja and shot her," said Gillen. "It was like crazy"

Gillen told NBC 6 that the shooter "came out of nowhere." Gillen's husband came out after hearing the gunshot, and says he immediately recognized the shooter who climbed a fence to get away.

Both Gillen and her husband say the shooter is known around neighborhood and hangs out in the area, but they have no idea why Mary Ann was targeted. They say the shooter is believed to be homeless.

Police officers swarmed the area with K9's in search of the suspect, but came up empty handed.

Mary Ann, 58, was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital. She is reportedly in stable condition and is expected to live.

The gunman, identified as 29-year-old Gregory Lee, was later arrested, police said. He's charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and burglary with an aggravated battery.

The shooting remains under investigation.
