A southwest Florida man faces a mandatory life sentence for killing his best friend during a dispute over money.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports that jurors found 39-year-old Edward Rutherford guilty Thursday of first-degree murder and robbery.
David Alessandrini was found dead in his home in April 2014. He had been stabbed 27 times, and $18,900 was missing from a safe at his house.
Rutherford testified that he found the body but didn't kill his friend. Prosecutors say Rutherford's DNA was found under Alessandrini's body.
