Man Faces Mandatory Life Sentence for Fatal Home Invasion

A former MTV reality show contestant is facing a mandatory life sentence for a fatal South Florida home invasion.

A Miami-Dade jury convicted Baron Colon on Tuesday of first-degree murder. His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 17.

Authorities say Colon and two others broke into the West Kendall home of 44-year-old Marcelo Vera in January 2006 with the help of a disgruntled employee. The Cuban exile art dealer was later found shot to death.

Colon was arrested in 2011 after talking about the crime to an undercover informant working with Miami-Dade police.

The Miami Herald reports that Colon appeared on the MTV reality show "From G's to Gents'' in 2009. The purpose of the show was to help misdirected young men change their lives.
