A man who had been drinking by a North Lauderdale canal Wednesday evening drowned there after he walked toward the canal, fell in and went under the water, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
The victim’s friend, who told deputies that they had been drinking by the water near 8013 SW 7th Place, said he tried to help but does not know how to swim, the BSO said.
He called 911, and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue took the drowned man took to University Hospital & Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the BSO.
No foul play is suspected, the BSO said.
