Man Feared Drowned in Deerfield Beach Lake

A man swimming with him reported him missing at 6:05 p.m.

Broward Sheriff’s Office divers and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews were searching a Deerfield Beach lake Thursday night for a swimmer who failed to surface earlier in the evening, a spokesman said.

At 6:05 p.m. one of the two men swimming in the lake at the northwest corner of Sample and Powerline roads got out of the water and told people at a nearby gas station that the man he was swimming with went under, spokesman Mike Jachles said.

Firefighters were the first to arrive and began the search, and were joined by divers and BSO Air Rescue, he said.

The victim had not been found as of 9:30 p.m.
