Man Fleeing From Cops After Hit-And-Run Plunges Into Canal: Police

A man who was hospitalized after his car plunged into a canal in northwest Miami-Dade Sunday afternoon was fleeing from police at the time of the incident, officials said.

The man was involved in an earlier hit-and-run crash that happened at NW 57th Avenue and NW 215th Street, Florida Highway Patrol officials said. He apparently lost control of the vehicle near NW 57th Avenue and 202 Street, falling into the nearby canal shortly before 5 p.m., according to witnesses.

At least four Good Samaritans worked together to extract the man from the vehicle, checking his pulse and administering CPR. They said he was unconscious and couldn’t talk.

The man was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. His name hasn't been released.

Police later said the man fled from the scene of the hit-and-run crash in a blue car before plunging into the canal just blocks away.

The other driver suffered minor injuries.

FHPofficials said the man who fled will face criminal charges for fleeing the scene of a crash with injuries.
