Man Hospitalized After Fireworks Accident in NW Miami-Dade

A man was rushed to the hospital after he was severely injured in a firework incident at a New Year's party in northwest Miami-Dade.

The incident happened outside a home in the 5000 block of Northwest 186th Street, as New Year's revelers were setting off fireworks in the street.

Witnesses said the man, later identified by family members as 25-year-old Orlando Perez, had a firework go off in his hand. The man may have lost some fingers in the blast, the witnesses said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the man was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where his exact condition was unknown.

Family members said Perez was undergoing surgery Monday afternoon.
