The man who was struck and killed by a Tri-Rail train was a suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, officials said.

The Sun Sentinel reports that Steverson Altidor, 35, is thought to have committed suicide when he was struck by a Tri-Rail train just hours after his girlfriend, Marcline Demosthene, 20, was found dead in Boynton Beach.

Authorities told the Sentinel Altidor fled the scene after Demosthene was killed. She was found dead insde a home along the 700 block of Northwest 8th Street. The cause of her death is not yet known.

Altidor was struck by a southbound train around 6 a.m. about a mile and a half south of the Boca Raton station Thursday.
