Police Searching for Driver After Man Killed in Davie Hit and Run Crash

Police in Davie are investigating a hit and run crash overnight that left one man dead.

Officers responded to the scene near US 441 and Griffin Road, where they found the body of the victim lying next to the median in the northbound lanes around midnight Sunday.

The victim was identified as 50-year-old Alfonso Velasquez Ordonez.

Witnesses told NBC 6 that the victim and another man were leaving a gas station when they were hit.

"I just saw him fall and a loud boom, a loud smack, and that was it," said witness Holly Wilson. "I knew that he was gone, because he wasn't moving or getting up."

Witnesses described the vehicle as a red Chevrolet truck, but police have not confirmed that.

Police are still investigating the crash.
