The Miami Beach Police Department said the shooting occurred along the 200 block of Española Way. An officer heard the gunfire and arrived to find a man dead at the scene and another who was injured.

The man who died was identified on Sunday as Ameer Golston.

"During our investigation we’ve learned Mr. Golston has a violent criminal history," MBPD said in a statement. "We continue to ask the public for their assistance in identifying those responsible for this shooting."

The injured man was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center and is expected to survive, according to police.

"A potential subject vehicle was located not far from the scene. While another fled. A pursuit ensued," MBPD said. "Our officer witnessed an occupant display a firearm from within the vehicle and later lost sight of that vehicle. A third vehicle was located near 83 Street and Collins Avenue which also fled."

Another police pursuit ensued for the third vehicle that resulted in two police vehicles crashing near 91st Street and Harding Avenue.

"Thankfully the officers only suffered minor injuries. The male subjects and vehicle fled the scene," police said. "We have a lot of work ahead of us."
