Man Lied About Little Girl Being in Stolen Car: Miami Gardens Police

A man who reported that a 2-year-old girl was taken when his car was stolen in Miami Gardens Friday night made up the part about the child, police said.

Doneal Ford is now facing a charge of filing a false police report after his story unraveled, Miami Gardens Police said Saturday. Ford, 30, also had an open warrant for marijuana possession, police said. It's unknown if he has an attorney.

Ford reported his car stolen from the Liquor Mart at 4662 Northwest 83rd Street, telling officers his god child and a small dog were in the running vehicle when it was taken, police said.

A GPS locating device on the car helped officers find it a short time later. Meanwhile, the mother of the child saw the news reports on the missing girl and called police, saying that the child had been with her the whole time, officials said.

Detectives discovered that Ford's girlfriend is the god mother of the child and friends with the girl's mother. Police didn't say why Ford lied about the girl being in the car.

The man who stole the car, Ahmad Bowleg, was later arrested, police said. It's unknown what exact charges he'll face.
