Man Murdered Inside Miami-Dade Bus, Mother Still Looking for Answers

The many memories with her son are too hard to bear. Evelyn Callie can't believe Lamar Callie's life was cut short at just 24 years old.

"My question still remains. Why? What could he have done that this life was taken from him," said Lamar's mother.

On June 5, 2012 around 9pm Lamar boarded a Miami-Dade Transit bus and did not get off alive. Witnesses told detectives he sat toward the back and started having a conversation with another man sitting nearby.

"People described it as a conversation. They weren't loud. But, the closer they got to 200th street, it got louder and people realized it was an argument," said Sgt. Wilbert Sanchez, Miami-Dade Police Department.

Police say when the bus was coming to a stop at a bus-way near Southwest 200th Street and US 1 multiple shots were fired. Detectives believe the man who shot Callie ran westbound.

"They described him as a young black male in his early 20's about 5'8, thin and light to medium complexion with a short haircut," said Sgt. Sanchez.

Although detectives don't think Lamar was targeted, his killer could be an acquaintance. The surveillance cameras on the bus weren't functioning, however, police say dozens of people witnessed the murder.

"This one is a frustrating because it happened on a bus and there were several people within close proximity to one another that I know saw something," said Sgt. Sanchez.

Lamar's mother, Evelyn, cries for the person responsible to surrender to police.

"If they put themselves in my shoes, how would they feel if someone did this to a loved one of theirs?" said Callie.
