Man Says He Fatally Shot Armed Roommate in Dania Beach Home

BSO says homicide detectives are still investigating the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Jonathon Miller

Authorities are investigating after a Dania Beach man said he fatally shot his roommate after he claims the roommate came into his room armed with a gun.

Broward Sheriff's Office officials said 31-year-old Jonathon Miller was shot to death in the home in the 5100 block of Southwest 28th Avenue shortly before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Miller's roommate, Rick Lane, told NBC 6 that Miller came into his room armed with a gun and demanded that Lane take him to get something to eat. Lane said when Miller pointed the gun at him, he opened fire with his own gun, shooting Miller three times.

Lane claims self-defense in the shooting and said he was questioned by BSO investigators for several hours before he was released without being arrested or charged. Lane said Miller has lived with him for several years.

Officials said homicide detectives are still investigating the shooting.
