Man Shoots Neighbor Over Property Dispute: Police

Two neighbors, armed with gardening hoes, fought over a property line, before Hector Estrada began shooting a pistol, authorities said.

A Miami man was arrested for attempting to murder his neighbor over a property line dispute, police said Wednesday.

Hector Estrada, 48, was arrested Saturday for shooting his neighbor several times with a pistol, Miami-Dade Police said.

Estrada and his neighbor, who live on Southwest 129 Court, had an ongoing dispute over a fence that Estrada put up to divide their properties, authorities said.

On Saturday, the neighbor asked Estrada about a gate he was making that opened toward the neighbor's backyard, which led to an argument, police said.

The two men, armed with gardening hoes, began to fight. The neighbor hit Estrada on his right hand and his hoe broke.

Estrada then left, but returned with a pistol, and he shot several rounds, hitting the neighbor's left forearm and left leg, authorities said.

As the neighbor ran away, Estrada ran behind him and shot him again, police said.

The neighbor was taken to Kendall Trauma Center, and Estrada was arrested on charges for attempted murder with a firearm.

Estrada told police he shot his neighbor, but only in self-defense. He was taken to jail and held without bond, police said. It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
