Teen Suspect Arrested in North Miami Beach ATM Fatal Shooting

Police say the 26-year-old victim was taking out cash when he was shot during a robbery attempt

The North Miami Beach Police Department said it has made an arrest related to the fatal shooting near an ATM.

Police say the 17-year-old suspect was arrested Thursday night at his home in Lauderhill without incident, but would not release any additional details.

Police said the 26-year-old victim, Dillon Bud Calvin Steve, was taking money out around 8:45 p.m. at the Bank of America near Northeast 163rd Street and 11th Avenue when he was approached by the suspect, who tried to rob him.

Witnesses told NBC 6 that the victim and his mother arrived in a van parked near the bank prior to the shooting. Police confirmed a family member was with Steve at the time of the shooting.

The suspect fled the scene after the shooting. Police on Thursday released surveillance images of the suspect wearing a hoodie and wielding a handgun.

Employees from a nearby restaurant rushed to help the victim after the shooting, but he died after being rushed to the hospital.

"It's a little bit scary if you think about it," John Pereira, who was nearby when the shooting occurred, said. "I was actually walking by. Walked over a block to Chase and deposited some money just a few minutes before that happened so it's pretty scary."
