Man Shot By Thieves Outside Miami Gardens Home

Police investigating shooting that left homeowner hospitalized

Police are investigating after a man was shot outside his Miami Gardens home early Thursday.

The incident happened in the area of Northwest 203rd Street and Northwest 33rd Avenue.

Authorities haven't released details but family members say the man, who was unidentified, came outside and found two thieves breaking into his car.

The thieves opened fire, hitting the victim in the shoulder. The victim returned fire and may have hit one of the suspects, family members said.

The man "went out to stop this crime from going on and unfortunately, he was shot as a result of that," said Miami Gardens Police spokesman Bill Bamford.

"I'm worrying about my kids, my grandkids," said one family member, who didn't want to be identified. "My son-in-law got shot, his car got shot up, my car got shot up, we were inside just watching TV."

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where family members said he was in stable condition but would need surgery.

Both of the suspects fled the area. Police were seen combing the area and taking evidence and taking photos of homes and cars that were hit with gunfire.
