Elderly Man Shot While Being Robbed of Gold Bracelet: Police

Joaquin Veita was walking in the parking lot of a Miami Walgreens on Sunday, when a man approached him to try to steal his gold bracelet, police said.

An elderly was shot multiple times in the abdomen as he fought off a thief with his cane, Miami Police said Monday.

Joaquin Veita, 73, was walking in the parking lot of a Miami Walgreens on Sunday, when a man approached him trying to steal his gold bracelet, police said.

Veita defended himself with his cane, but was shot, and the suspect escaped in a car driven by another man. The car was 2000-style Burgundy Ford Taurus with tinted windows.

Veita remains hospitalized in critical condition.
