Man Shot With Own Gun in Robbery Attempt in Southwest Miami-Dade

A man was hospitalized after he was shot with his own gun during a robbery attempt in southwest Miami-Dade early Tuesday, police said.

The incident was reported in the 4200 block of Southwest 99th Court shortly before 4 a.m.

Officials said the 24-year-old man was rushed to Kendall Regional Hospital where his condition was unknown.

According to police, the victim armed himself after he heard some noise outside his home and went to investigate.

The man encountered three suspects attempting to steal his dirt bike. The suspects took the man's gun during a confrontation and the man was shot in the leg, police said.

A second person in the house came out with a gun and shot at the suspects, who fled the scene without taking the bike, police said.

Police said they're looking for the three suspects, believed to be between 20 and 24 years old.

It was unknown if any of the suspects were injured.
