An early morning shooting outside Fort Lauderdale claimed the life of one man who family members say was with his child at the time of the incident.

Broward Sheriff's Office officials say officers arrived at the scene near Sunrise Boulevard and Northwest 27th Avenue near the entrance of Dillard High School.

Family members say the victim, identified by his aunt as “Butters”, was with his girlfriend and eight-year-old son when he was struck in what they called a drive-by shooting. The victim was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died.
