Man Stabbed Woman in Chest Several Times: Miami Police

Woman critical after early-morning stabbing in Wynwood: Police

A woman was in critical condition Friday after a man stabbed her in the chest several times in Wynwood, Miami Police said.

The incident happened early Friday in the 2100 block of Northwest 1st Avenue.

Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes said the couple had been in an argument when the man stabbed the woman. When officers arrived and ordered the man to drop the knife, he refused, and the officers used a Taser on the man, Reyes said.

The woman, who was unresponsive, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she was in critical condition, Reyes said. The man was also hospitalized after one of the Taser prongs became stuck in his neck.

Neither the man nor the woman were identified.

A nearby business owner said he heard a woman yelling for help around 5:30 a.m.

"We heard the lady calling for help and then when we went out we saw the guy in the middle of the street," witness Ike Cortes said. "He was on top of her, stabbing her,  but then he got up and he ran."

Cortes said the man was covered in blood when he tried to run away, but police arrived quickly.

"They told him about 10 times to drop the knife and he didn't wanna drop it," Cortes said. "So another officer came and Tasered him and then he dropped and they got him."
