Man Wards Off Hammer-Wielding Robber With Machete After Violent Home Invasion

Miami Police are looking for a violent home invasion suspect who stole items including a breast pump from a home on the 2200 block of Southwest 22nd Terrace in Miami Sunday night.

According to police, two women were inside the home when they saw the robber outside. Also inside the home were two children, aged two months and 18 months.

“We believe he was casing the joint – casing the house, excuse me – for about an hour and a half before he went in,” the victim’s husband, who asked not to be named, said.

Police said the robber swung a hammer at a patio-facing, glass window to get into the home.

“My wife had to run through the house, scoop up our infant out of an infant swing, and then, they ran through the front room where my son was sleeping,” the husband said.

The robber was hot on their heels, but the second women, the victim’s mother, came out of the shower and the criminal turned his aggression towards her.

“My mother-in-law came out of the shower, and he punched her in the face a few times, kicked and stomped on her into the ground,” the husband said.

As the burglar ransacked the home, the mother and grandmother got the children out of the home.

“My wife opened the window, jumped out of the window, and her mother handed the kids to her and ran to the next-door neighbor,” the husband said.

The neighbor, Jorge Gil, said when the mother got to his home, she was clutching her baby and begging him to call the police. Gil called the police and grabbed a machete to scare off the robber.

The robber took off with a Dell laptop computer, an iPad in a case, and a breast pump.

The father said his young son was left traumatized. “He said a few times, ‘I scared. I was shaken,’ or ‘I shook.'"

Police said the robber is a man in his 30’s or 40’s, roughly 6’2”, 220 pounds with a muscular build, short hair, pointy nose, and a brightly colored tattoo on his shoulder or arm. He was seen wearing a shirt with the New York Yankees logo on it and was also wearing a gold chain.
