Man Stole From Florida Keys Church While Performing Community Service: Sheriff's Office

A man was arrested after authorities say he stole items from a Florida Keys church while he was serving community service there.

Brian Sheppard, 22, is facing grand theft, fraud and dealing in stolen property charges following his arrest Wednesday, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

Sheppard was being held on $75,000 bond Thursday and it was unknown if he has an attorney.

According to the sheriff's office, the pastor of Vineyard Community Church on Big Pine Key noticed a number of items missing from his church on Monday, including computer equipment, an air compressor and other items.

His son later found the items at a pawn shop, and detectives found out Sheppard had brought the items there, authorities said.

Sheppard was on probation and was working community service at the church between August and October. He admitted he took the items and pawned them, authorities said.
