Man Takes Kids With Him to Steal Car From Fort Myers Repair Shop

A Punta Gorda father of two found himself behind bars after stealing a car from a Fort Myers auto repair shop – while his kids were with him.

32-year-old Michael McMikel was arrested Tuesday, according to NBC affiliate WBBH-TV. According to Lee County Sheriff’s deputies, McMikel exited the building with his kids and entered a car belonging to another customer that had just finished being repaired.

He was pulled over several blocks later at a local elementary school, which was placed on lockdown while McMikel was arrested at gun point. He later told deputies he only wanted to talk to an agent from the Drug Enforcement Agency and that he had been told to steal the vehicle from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

McMikel is out of jail on bond.

The owner of the repair show, which has been open for 35 years, says employees always leave a car running after they have pulled it to the front of the building when they are finished with the job.

The owner of the car that was stolen says he doesn’t blame the shop and will continue to take his vehicle there for service.
