Man Takes Miami Police Car on Joy Ride: Cops

A man is facing a grand theft auto charge after police say he went on a joy ride in a marked Miami police cruiser.

Larry Nystrom, 51, was arrested Tuesday night after taking the car from Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami Police said.

Nystrom was being held without bond Wednesday and it was unknown if he has an attorney.

According to an arrest report, an officer saw Nystrom arrive back at the hospital in the police car and he appeared to be "in a state of mental distress" when he stepped out of the car.

Nystrom had shaky hands, a blank stare and refused to identify himself while being questioned, the report said. He tried to get back into the car but was taken into custody.

As Nystrom was being arrested, an alert was issued for the car and a person whose description matched Nystrom, the report said.

"I had fun on the joy ride and I even turned on the lights and sirens," he said, according to the report.
