Man Threatened to Behead Girlfriend With Samurai Sword: Hollywood Police

A Hollywood man who badly beat his girlfriend and threatened to cut her head off with a Samurai sword attacked two officers who arrested him, authorities said.

Francisco Miranda, 53, is facing several charges including aggravated battery, aggravated assault and aggravated battery on a police officer, firefighter or EMT after his arrest Thursday, according to a Hollywood Police arrest report.

Miranda remained behind bars on $183,000 bond Friday, jail records showed. It was unknown if he's hired an attorney.

According to the report, Miranda and his girlfriend got into an argument at his home on N. Dixie Highway and he started punching her, then picked up the sword, which was still in its sheath, and started to hit her in the head with it.

Miranda began repeatedly hitting her in the head with a brick, then pulled the sword out of the sheath and told her he was going to cut her head off, the report said.

The woman fled the apartment and when officers arrived they noticed she had several contusions on her head and face, the report said.

The report said Miranda at first refused to come out of his home. When he did come out he was very intoxicated and lost his footing and fell face first onto the pavement, the report said.

Miranda was taken into custody and placed into a police vehicle, but once inside he started kicking the bars of the window, causing $200 in damage, the report said.

When a sergeant and an officer tried to put leg restraints on him, he started kicking them and spit in their faces, the report said. The sergeant was able to pepper spray him in the face, and he was taken to a hospital.

While at the hospital, Miranda told a nurse he has Hepatitis C, the report said.

The sergeant and officer weren't badly injured.
