Man Turns HImself in for Fatally Shooting Friend at Pompano Beach Market: BSO

A man who authorities were searching for in connection to a fatal shooting at a market in Pompano Beach turned himself in to the Broward Sheriff's Office, authorities said Thursday.

Bernard Hamp, 36, from Pompano Beach, had been sought for the Monday shooting of his friend Luis Jordan, 23, the sheriff's office said. He faces one count of first-degree murder.

Authorities said Hamp and Jordan were in front of the 15 Street Market, located at 500 NW 15the Street, when they argued and Jordan picked up a bottle from the ground, threw it at Hamp and hit him in the head.

Hamp went into the market and grabbed a gun, whcih he knew was kept behind the counter, chased Jordan. He shot him multiple time through the parking lot of a grocery store.

Jordan collapsed in a nearby strip mall and had a bullet wound in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Hamp was remorseful during the interview with them and he told them he had known Jordan for several years.

Hamp had fled the scene in a grayish-blue 1995 Chevy Cavalier, which has not been found.
