Man in Custody After Fatal Stabbing in Miramar: Cops

Police identified Shuneeque Shawntrell Jones, 38, as the victim

A man is in custody in connection with the murder of a woman after Miramar Police say she died of apparent stab wounds.

They identified her Monday night as Shuneeque Shawntrell Jones, 38, of 2701 Sable Palm Drive.

Neighbors, who said they saw a man stab a woman, called 911 to report the altercation near La Salle Boulevard and Sable Palm Drive.

Nuris Gimenez and her mother live on Sable Drive, on the same block as the victim.

"They opened the door and they saw her laying on the floor,” Nuris Gimenez said.

A Broward Sheriff's Office helicopter, K-9 units and Pembroke Pines officers assisted Miramar Police in the search for the man, who fled the scene. Authorities said he was eventually captured nearby, but have not released his name yet.

Shawntrell Jones was a mother of two and had a fiance, her uncle Jerome Jones said.

Her family members, overwhelmed with pain, were screaming and crying at the scene. According to loved ones, the fiancé was present at the scene, but was too distraught to speak.

"It’s horrible, it’s horrible. I feel horrible for her family,” neighbor Diane Forte said.

She was surprised by the killing.

"That's not supposed to happen here. We’re safe here. It’s a safe neighborhood," she said. "That doesn't happen here."
