Man in Custody After Stolen Police Car Crashes Into Pole in Pembroke Pines

An early morning chase and crash in Pembroke Pines involving a stolen police vehicle has one man facing several charges.

Officers say they spotted the marked Fort Lauderdale Police cruiser traveling at a high rate of speed just after 2 a.m. Thursday northbound on Palm Avenue near Pines Boulevard.

Officers attempted to stop the driver, identified as 33-year-old Antwane Jones, but he wouldn’t stop and crashed into a nearby pole before fleeing from the car, officials said.

Pembroke Pines Police were able to capture Jones after a short foot chase and took him to an area hospital for medical clearance. Jones will face charges that include auto theft and fleeing police.

Fort Lauderdale Police officials confirmed that the car was stolen from an officer's home in Pembroke Pines. FLPD said they are conducting an administrative review into the matter.

Officials have not said if there are any issues with power or other utilities in the area as a result of the pole being damaged.
