Manatees Close to Shore in Pompano Beach

The manatees were north of the pier.

Aerial footage showed several manatees close to shore in Pompano Beach on Monday.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the manatees are a mating herd.

Beachgoers had gathered around the four manatees, but wildlife officials said the people should leave the manatees alone as they are not in danger.

Lifeguards were in the area just north of the fishing pier at 10 Pompano Beach Blvd. and are keeping the area clear.
