Man's Body Found in Alleyway in West Park: BSO

Homicide investigators responding to scene

A man walking his dog in a West Park alleyway made a grisly discovery Wednesday morning.

"His dog was barking and stumbled upon something that he thought was a mannequin, and upon closer inspection, he realized that it was in fact a deceased person," said Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.

Police have not identified the man.

Steve Skopp was opening his car repair shop in front of the alley on the 3800 block of West Hallandale Beach Boulevard when he heard the dog walker in a panic.

"Man was in a frenzy, he was on his cell phone calling the police and I went out there and I noticed the body," Skopp, owner of Steve's Transmissions. "t looked like a young boy, maybe like 14, 15."

Police didn't say whether the death is suspicious, but a construction business across the street from the alley handed over surveillance video that might offer clues.

Crime scene investigators spent the day collecting evidence and interviewing neighbors.

"An officer came and knocked on my door, but he didn't tell us nothing. He just ask us did we hear shots, I didn't hear nothing," said Shaquile Theophile, who lives nearby.

Skopp says the quiet alley has become an attraction for late night mischief.

"This is a dumping ground over there, there's so much debris back there, tires, car parts," Skopp said. "This is not the first time occurrence."
