Marlins Activate Martin Prado from Disabled List

The Marlins activated third baseman Martín Prado from the disabled list on Friday

The Miami Marlins activated third baseman Martín Prado from the 10-day disabled list on Friday.

Prado has been on the DL since May 7th, with a hamstring injury. The 3B has already had two stints on the disabled list this season and his absence has been noticeable. With Prado out of the lineup, Miami has used a combo of Derek Dietrich and Christian Colón at third base.

Dietrich will now slide back into a utility role off the bench, while Colón was designated for assignment. Colón may end up staying in the organization after a dissapointing stretch with Miami. The former Kansas City Royal prospect was given an opportunity, but only had five hits in 33 at-bats.

Prado's injury came at a tough time, as the veteran was riding a hot streak at the plate. Before landing on the DL, Prado collected nine hits in six games. The 3B is hitting .290 on the season, with a .315 on-base percentage. Prado also offers dependable defense at 3B on a daily basis.

While Prado was gone, Miami made some changes to the lineup. Giancarlo Stanton now hits second, a spot that Prado had occupied for most of this season. With Stanton's success in the two-hole, manager Don Mattingly may have a decision to make. It is possible that Mattingly will drop Prado to the latter half of the lineup and see how that configuration works.

The Marlins are close to having shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria return as well, though it is possible he is traded beforehand. JT Riddle has performed well in his opportunity at SS and there have been reports of a possible trade involving Hechavarria.

Miami will look to rebound from a loss, when it hosts the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
