Marlins Beat Braves in Slugfest

It took 12 runs and 20 hits for the Marlins to beat the Braves 12-11 on Friday

The Miami Marlins needed every run they could get in their 12-11 win over the Atlanta Braves on Friday at Marlins Park.

Miami's 12 runs came on 20 hits and four different players on the team had three-hit days. The Marlins have never had a cycle in franchise history, but nearly had two in this one win. Justin Bour and Christian Yelich each fell one big hit short of the milestone.

Bour who crushed his 20th home run in the first inning only needed a triple to complete the cycle. The blast was of the three-run variety which gave Bour 66 runs batted in on the season. The slugging first baseman now has 17 doubles as well on the year.

Yelich missed the cycle by a home run as he picked up his 25th double and second triple of the year. Yelich now has 41 RBI this season and is hitting a strong .292.

Dee Gordon and Miguel Rojas each had three hits in the game. Gordon now has 193 hits on the year with eight games remaining. This gives the second baseman as a decent chance at 200 hits to go along with his team-best .332 batting average. Gordon also swiped his 54th base of the season in the win.

Jeff Mathis made a rare start and had two big hits. The veteran catcher had four runs batted in courtesy of a double and a triple. Mathis is only hitting .159 this season, but as of late has made the most of the opportunities given to him.

Jose Fernandez had a rare poor outing but was helped out by the offensive explosion. Fernandez allowed four runs in the first inning alone and six runs overall in five innings on the mound. Despite the poor outing, Fernandez stayed in long enough for the win and is now 6-0 this season.

The Marlins will attempt to win a fourth game in a row on Saturday when Justin Nicolino faces the Braves.
