Marlins Blown Out By Mets

The Marlins had their two-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday

The Miami Marlins were unable to get much started in their 12-1 loss to the New York Mets on Tuesday.

The loss ended Miami's two-game winning streak and put it on the brink of elimination. The Marlins have an elimination of one and would need to win out, while multiple teams ahead of them lose every remaining game.

Tom Koehler gave up up four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings of work. The right-hander walked four and struggled with command throughout. Koehler is now 9-13 this season with a 4.15 E.R.A.

Due to Koehler's short outing, Miami was forced to use its bullpen for extended innings. Hunter Cervenka, Nefi Ogando, Dustin McGowan, Justin Nicolino, Austin Brice, Mike Dunn and Odrisamer Despaigne all saw time in relief for the Marlins. The group of pitchers combined for 5.1 innings of eight-run ball. Five of those runs came in the eighth inning with Dunn on the mound.

The offense started fast for Miami with a run in the first inning and then was shut down the rest of the way. Marcell Ozuna's single brought home Dee Gordon to give the outfielder 75 runs batted in on the year.

Jose Urena will take the ball for the series finale on Wednesday.
