The Miami Marlins and Chicago Cubs will be honoring the 17 victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School when they take the field on Opening Day Thursday at Marlins Park.

Both the Marlins and Cubs will wear patches on their jerseys with the letters "MSD" in a maroon ribbon that contains 17 stars that represent the victims who lost their lives in the Feb. 14 shooting at the Parkland school.

The Marlins will also unveil a sign on the left field wall with the same ribbon that will remain for the entire season.

Cubs star Anthony Rizzo, who is from Parkland and attended Stoneman Douglas, will host four of the victims' families at Friday's game, the Miami Herald reported. Rizzo left spring training and traveled to Parkland shortly after the shooting to lend his support.

The Marlins hosted the Stoneman Douglas baseball and softball teams at their spring training facility in Jupiter last month, where they met with team CEO and part owner Derek Jeter. Jeter has also invited the baseball team to play a game against Coral Springs at the park on April 4, the Herald reported.

The Marlins will also host a special "Douglas Day" on April 15 and will give free admission to Stoneman Douglas students and staff when they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Teams throughout Major League Baseball wore Stoneman Douglas caps during spring training in support of Stoneman Douglas. Many of the hats have been signed and have been or will be auctioned with proceeds benefiting the Broward Education Foundation's Stoneman Douglas Victims' Fund.

During Friday's game against the Cubs, The Marlins Foundation will host a mystery hat grab of Stoneman Douglas caps that were worn and signed by Marlins players with all proceeds benefiting a MSD Strong charity.
