Marlins Shut Out Phillies for Second Straight Win

The Marlins blanked the Phillies in their 1-0 victory on Thursday to win the series

The Miami Marlins sent a lot of arms to the mound on Thursday and the result was a 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The victory gave Miami a series win over Philadelphia and also kept hope alive for a winning record at home. The Marlins have 40 losses at Marlins Park this year and need to win the next three games to accomplish the feat. A sweep in the upcoming series would give Miami a 41-40 record at home.

Jarred Cosart pitched well but was forced to exit early due to a left forearm contusion. Cosart was hit with a line drive back at the mound, and initially stayed in. As the game progressed, the right-hander was lifted due to possible swelling in the area. As the injury is to his left arm, Cosart should be able to go in his next start.

After Cosart's four scoreless innings, Miami gave the ball to Jose Urena for one frame. Urena had a quiet inning where he allowed just one hit. Chris Narveson would take over next and gave Miami 1.1 perfect innings of relief. Bryan Morris and Mike Dunn would pick up the next 1.2 innings, and were also perfect.

In the ninth, A.J.Ramos sealed the deal with his 29th save of the year. Ramos also did not allow a baserunner. The combined effort from Miami kept Philadelphia off the bases for the final four innings of the game.

Miami's lone run came in the seventh inning on a run-scoring triple by J.T. Realmuto. The rookie catcher brought home Derek Dietrich with the three-base hit. Realmuto now has seven triples this season. No catcher in franchise history has had more triples in a single season.

Jose Fernandez will start on Friday to begin Miami's final series of the year at home. The Atlanta Braves will be in town for the weekend series.
